The BBC has announced that its Northern Irish police drama Hope Street has been renewed for a second season, with filming due to begin next month.

A further 10 episodes of the series have been ordered, with the show described by the broadcaster as "a real hit".

Set in the fictional town of Port Devine, each episode of Hope Street "features a self-contained crime story, and follows the ups and downs of those working in the Port Devine police department as they deal with everyday policing in the beautiful seaside town".

Carla-Maria Lawson, Head of BBC Daytime and Early Peak, described herself as "thrilled" that there would be more cases to crack.

"We've been asked over and over again to make a series two, so know our audiences will love to go back to Hope Street and pick-up where they left off," she added.

Made in partnership with Northern Ireland Screen, the second season of Hope Street will premiere on BBC One later this year.
