Pick of the Day

The Case I Can't Forget, 9.35pm, RTÉ One

Season two of the series featuring first-hand accounts by detectives who worked on difficult criminal cases.

They reveal not just the story of a crime, but the dedication and personal commitment necessary to solve the crime and bring the perpetrator to justice.

The first episode sees Pat Marry reflecting on the investigation into the 2004 murder of Rachel O'Reilly and his pursuit of her killer - her husband Joe.

Even now, nearly 20 years on, this story is as shocking as it is appalling.

Don’t Miss

Gazza, 9.00pm, BBC Two

This is a two-part documentary charting the life and career of football legend Paul Gascoigne, whose on-field brilliance has been rivalled by a troubled private life.

Gazza in happier times with Gary Lineker

Ultimately though, it’s a study of the way British tabloids can destroy someone.

The first episode looks back to Paul's early years, when the exciting young talent from Newcastle found fame and fortune as he made his way in the world of professional football.

But the intense media attention and constant scrutiny proved difficult for the genial Geordie to deal with, and his mental health suffered.

Putin, Russia and the West, 9.00pm, BBC Four

Don’t say we weren’t warned about Putin. I wouldn't even trust him if he was behind me in a queue for the cinema.

Here’s an insight into the 2008 armed conflict between Russia and Georgia over the South Ossetia region.

The countries' respective presidents at the time, Dmitry Medvedev and Mikheil Saakashvili, recall the intense behind-the-scenes negotiations that led up to the war, and French President Nicolas Sarkozy's efforts to broker a ceasefire.

In Washington, DC, former Secretary of Defence Robert Gates and then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice describe how they considered the consequences of offering military support to their Georgian allies.

New or Returning Shows

Mary Berry's Fantastic Feasts, 8.00pm, BBC One

While the trio join Mary at her home for a series of cooking lessons, Roman Kemp and Tom Read Wilson oversee the extras to make the party extra special - and also offer moral support when temperatures rise in the kitchen.

When everything is ready, they head to Langley Hall near Cardiff to cook their feast for 15, and give Soraya the surprise of a lifetime.

Featuring a stellar cast, rich characterisation and a rollercoaster of twists and turns, The Ipcress File is a stylish spy story set in the 1960s amid the highly charged atmosphere of the Cold War.
