Thewlis have followed up their well-received debut single The Boy Behind Bowie with new song County Level - watch the video for the new track here.
A slow guitar grind, it marks a change of pace for the band, who feature music writer Danny McElhinney and Cormac Curtis, and who are named after acclaimed actor David Thewlis.
County Level delivers a rebuke to barroom commentators who often dismiss sportsman or woman as "good but not county level", a form of damnation by faint praise often heard in Irish sports grounds.
"It is also often heard, or a variation of it, in discussions in hostelries where the subject turns to our national games," say Thewlis.
However, they say County Level is not a `GAA song.' Nor is it knocking those who follow GAA (at least one of Thewlis is a big GAA fan), but it does speak to a certain type of person who holds forth on a variety of topics and feels their opinion should be heard and considered the final word on any subject.

The band add, "That person might also suggest that they've 'seen better playing on a pub team' about a soccer player or say someone made a ’schoolboy error’ when an oval ball is knocked on.
"Chances are, they’ve also heard 'better bands playing down in my local’ than Thewlis, but we don’t listen to those type of people; do you?"
