Peaky Blinders and Love/Hate star Charlie Murphy has been cast in Damage, a three-part Netflix adaptation of the novella of the same name by the late Irish author Josephine Hart.

Damage was previously made into an Oscar-nominated 1992 film starring Jeremy Irons, Juliette Binoche and Miranda Richardson.

The new adaptation is billed as "a thrilling and seductive limited series about erotic obsession and forbidden desire".

Murphy's character, Anna Barton, embarks on an affair with William (The Hobbit's Richard Armitage), the father of her fiancé, Martyn (Ms Marvel's Rish Shah).

The cast also includes Game of Thrones star Indira Varma as Ingrid, William's wife.

Damage will be directed by Northern Irish duo Glenn Leyburn and Lisa Barros D'Sa. Their other credits include the films Ordinary Love and Good Vibrations.
