Pick of the Day
What If Putin Goes Nuclear? 8.00pm, Channel 4
Following the fall of the Berlin Wall and implosion of the USSR, Cold War nightmares about nuclear armageddon faded into the background.
It seemed like the Doctor Strangelove days were gone. But they never really went away . . .
Now, following Russian President Putin's very public decision to put his nuclear strategic forces on high alert, Jon Snow explores what had previously been considered the unthinkable.
That’s the possibility that the Russians might make use of nuclear weapons as part of the Ukrainian conflict, and the implications for the UK and the rest of the world.

He’s also aiming to cover the cost of his expensive break-up, so he does a locum shift at a private hospital, where he gets an eye-opening idea of how the other half lives.
But he also soon realises how ill-equipped the hospital is in the case of an emergency.
Meanwhile, back at the hospital, Shruti shows how much she has improved when she takes charge of a challenging night shift.

In the third episode of this show about putting a band of oldies together, rehearsals intensify so that the bands can perfect the tracks they have learnt so far.

He also learns about opal mining in one of the most hostile places on Earth and, together with Ellie, reveals how ambergris, a substance that starts life in a sperm whale's stomach, can prove an expensive ingredient in perfume.
Plus, how one of the largest and most unusual treasures has helped solve a 67-million-year- old puzzle.
