Cardiff-based rock three-piece Feverjaw have released their new single, Midsommar. We asked vocalist Dale the BIG questions . . .
The track is taken from their upcoming EP Casual Abrasive due for release April 1st 2022, the follow-up to their 2021 debut album All Bets Are Off.
Midsommar features guest vocals from Ben Fox Smith (Serafin/ Stoney Sleep) and was mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Frank Arkwright (Arcade Fire, Frank Turner, System of a Down).
Tell us three things about yourself?
I'm an OCD creative, a film buff and one of life's true dreamers.
How would you describe your music?
Anthemic distortion-fuelled rock of the alternative variety.
Who are your musical inspirations?
I adore the work of the 90's Seattle scene like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden and other alt rock bands. I also loved the early '00's Brit rock bands like Placebo, Feeder, Reuben and Serafin. Throw in more classic acts like Beatles, Slade and Pink Floyd and that covers me pretty well.
What was the first gig you ever went to and the first record you ever bought/downloaded?
My first gig was Bon Jovi in Cardiff. The first record I ever personally bought was Manic Street Preachers If You Tolerate This.
What's your favourite song right now?
Manchester Orchestra's Telepath is a truly beautiful piece of music.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Very hard call. I'm not sure! I'll make honourable mentions for Biffy Clyro’s Space for personal reasons, Reuben’s Moving to Blackwater and Pearl Jam's Betterman.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
By definition this would mean me growing sick of this song. Not sure I'd want that but I'd pick one of three: Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Otherside, Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb (that solo!) or Smashing Pumpkins’ Here is No Way (such a great recording).
