The gurney continues on This is Going to Hurt, Kate Garraway takes over from Piers Morgan on Life Stories, Home of the Year visits Belfast, and Charlie Brooker’s Cat Burglar lands on Netflix . . .

Pick of the Day

This is Going to Hurt, 9.00pm, BBC One

The Ben Whishaw-starring medical dramedy’s divided opinion across the Irish Sea, but my wife – who's given birth twice – loves it and considers it realistic. And fun.

This week, a politician's hospital visit puts pressure on the already beleaguered workforce, especially head midwife Tracy, who has to organise the event while also doing her own job.

Whishaw’s Adam is preoccupied by a beloved older patient with cancer, while Shruti suspects a pregnant woman is being abused by her partner, but struggles to get her alone.

Away from work, Adam finally opens up to Harry.

Don’t Miss

Home of the Year, 8.30pm, RTÉ One

As the gorgeous gaff show continues, judges Hugh Wallace, Amanda Bone and Sara Cosgrove visit Michelle and Rob McNeil's renovated 1920s’ house in Belfast (above).

Also on view tonight, Michael Merrins and Jean Ann Taylor's brand new build in Dublin and Cat and Ciaran Hogan's 1970s’ home in Galway.

Marian, 10.15pm, RTÉ One

Here’s another chance to see this documentary about the late and much-loved broadcaster Marian Finucane's life and career.

It’s a really touching watch as her husband John Clarke goes beyond her public persona to paint an intimate portrait of their 40 years together.

He’s still dealing with his own loss and despair after her death in January 2020, and this film is both a love letter and an honest recounting of the highs and lows of their lives.

New or Returning Shows

Kate Garraway's Life Stories, 9.00pm, Virgin Media One

Taking over from previous host Piers Morgan, Kate Garraway (below) is joined by famous faces to explore their careers and personal lives.

This run begins with former Liverpool and England football player John Barnes, who looks back on his life and career.

He reflects on arriving in London from Jamaica as a 12-year-old boy with hopes of playing professional football, and how his precocious talent made his dream come true.

He also reflects on how he overcame years of horrific racial abuse to win two league titles and three player of the season awards.

Rigs of Nigg, 9.00pm, BBC Four

This is the story of how more than 5,000 workers came together to create oil platforms in the North Sea - structures previously thought to be unbuildable and to withstand elements considered unsurvivable.

New to Stream

Cat Burglar, Netflix

The proposition here is that classic cartoon craziness meets an interactive quiz in this new series from the creators of Black Mirror.

Charlie Brooker’s latest televisual escapade is about a criminal cat called Rowdy, who attempts to steal the most valuable painting in the world.

The interactive quiz element means the viewer can either help or hinder Rowdy.

Race: Bubba Wallace, Netflix

Both the personal and professional tracks of race car driver Bubba Wallace's life are chronicled in this new docuseries.

With exclusive access to Wallace during the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season, his first with Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s 23XI Racing, the six-episode run traces his rise to the elite ranks of NASCAR.

Bubba Wallace is the only full-time black driver involved and the series also looks at the turbulent aftermath that followed his decision to speak out about racial injustice.

Ending Today

Glór Tíre, 9.30pm, TG4

The live final of this year’s contest sees three finalists battling it out to claim the title.

Presented by Aoife Ní Thuairisg (above) and Séamus Ó Scanláin, there will be also some special guest performances, performances from each of the remaining contestants and ultimately crowning your Glór Tíre 2022 winner.

Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby, 9.00pm, BBC Two

Giles Coren and Monica Galetti (above) work in the expensive and exclusive Lanesborough in Knightsbridge, central London.

This is the kind of place where suites costing up to £27,000 a night are often rented for months at a time. What Russian oligarchs and the like can easily afford.

It is the first time the prestigious hotel has allowed anyone behind the scenes and Giles and Monica discover friendly staff that make staying there feel like home.

Geordie Hospital, 8.00pm, Channel 4

In this final episode of this documentary series, consultant vascular surgeon Anne performs a bypass to save Lynne's leg, while pensioner Doris gets the gift of sight for her birthday.

Elsewhere, 14-year-old Jack needs surgery on his broken ankle after falling off his bike, and the orthopaedic trauma team help 11-year-old Maddison, who has been knocked over by a car.

Last, but not least, the hospital’s head chaplain Katie pays Dorothy a visit on her 90th birthday.
