Adele smashes her Brit Awards record with three more wins

Adele has extended her record as the most-awarded female at the Brit Awards by taking three awards on Tuesday night at the ceremony in London.

Her recent hit Take it Easy on Me won Song of The Year and later in the evening she picked up awards for Artist of The Year, triumphing over Little Simz, Dave, Sam Fender, and Ed Sheeran, and Album of The Year, beating Dave's We're All Alone in This Together, = by Ed Sheeran, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert by Little Simz, and Seventeen Going Under by Sam Fender.

Taking to the stage, Adele said: "First of all I didn't know that many songs were nominated for Song of the Year. I can’t believe that a piano ballad won up against that many bangers.

"But thank you so much. It is always a pleasure to be here. I always love coming home and the Brits is such a big part of my career since way back when I was a little foetus."

The London singer wore a large ring on her fourth finger - prompting speculation on social media that she is engaged to her sports agent boyfriend Rich Paul.

This year's Brits were held at the O2 Arena in London and were hosted by comedian Mo Gilligan, taking over the mantle from fellow funny man Jack Whitehall.

There was a stage mishap early in the evening when Anne-Marie took a tumble as she descended a flight of steps during a performance with rapper KSI and Digital Farm Animals.

The pop singer made an entrance from inside a giant heart on stage, but she appeared to fall as she made her way down.

Succession star Brian Cox presented Ed Sheeran with the Songwriter of The Year award and also on Tuesday night, 18-year-old US star Olivia Rodrigo picked up her first ever Brit award for International Song of The Year for her track Good 2 U.

"Last year at the Brits was my first performance ever so to get this award tonight is so surreal. Thank you so much." she said.

The Brits, which was aired live on Virgin Media Two In Ireland, opened this year with Sheeran performing a surprise collaboration with Show Me The Horizon on a new version of his hit Bad Habits.

Best Pop/RnB Act went to Dua Lipa, who sent her thank you speech from Miami where she is due to perform tomorrow night.

Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones presented the award for Alternative Rock, which went to Sam Fender, who was nominated for three awards in total.

Veteran DJs Pete Tong and David Guetta presented an emotional Becky Hill with the award for Best Dance act.

Group of The Year went to former Mercury Prize winners Wolf Alice, who beat Little Mix, Coldplay, London Grammar, and D-Block Europe in the category.
