The second season of the hit show Reacher may not be the second book in author Lee Child's series of Jack Reacher thrillers, executive producer Nick Santora has told RTÉ Entertainment.

The Alan Ritchson-starring Reacher has become a ratings hit since it premiered on Prime Video last Friday - receiving the green light for a second season by Monday.

The first season is based on Lee Child's debut Jack Reacher adventure, 1997's Killing Floor, but showrunner Nick Santora told RTÉ Entertainment that it is not a given that season two will be an adaptation of Child's 1998 follow-up, Die Trying.

Nick Santora is a very happy man with the reaction to Reacher

"I've read the book a bunch of times," he said. "[But] We don't know if it will be Die Trying. We're not sure. We might go in order, we might go out of order. I really have great partners in the studio and the network and in Lee Child, of course. Everyone just gets together and we have a discussion. We figure things out, and that's what we'll do.

"I know Lee will have thoughts and opinions. He's thrown out a few titles [as suggestions], I know Die Trying being one of them and [also] a few others.

"But I can't go wrong - he wrote scores of incredible books. You pick any one off the shelf, it'll make great television."

Reacher season one is streaming now on Prime Video.
