Here's a first look at the TV adaption of Sally Rooney's Conversations with Friends - and it looks tense and intimate and we can't wait to watch it this spring.

Conversations with Friends, which was acclaimed author Sally Rooney's debut novel, follows a 21-year-old Dublin based college student called Frances, who, along with her friend Bobbi, becomes involved in the life of married couple, Melissa and Nick.

Alison Oliver, an emerging talent from the Lir Academy plays Frances. American Honey's Sasha Lane stars as Bobbi, Joe Alwyn, best known as featuring in The Favourite, is Nick and Girls' Jemima Kirke plays Melissa.

Element Pictures is once again collaborating with director Lenny Abrahamson and writer Alice Birch who worked alongside writers Mark O'Halloran (Rialto), Meadhbh McHugh (Asking For It) and Susan Soon He Stanton (Succession) on the 12-part drama for BBC Three in partnership with Hulu, made in association with RTÉ.

Speaking about Conversations With Friends Abrahamson previously said: "I feel so excited to be collaborating with four such superb actors to bring Sally's brilliant novel to the screen."

RTÉ Director of Acquisitions & Co-Productions, Dermot Horan said: "RTÉ is really looking forward to bringing the adaptation of Sally Rooney's first novel to Irish viewers. With the team that brought you Normal People behind the show, it promises to be one of 2022's stand out drama."
