Kildare singer Lea Heart has released her new single, Taking Back My Heart, and plays The Academy, Dublin on April 19 and 20. We asked her the BIG questions . . .
Lea has already released her debut EP, her song A Million Goodbyes featured in hit TV series Love Island, and she toured with Picture This across the UK and Europe.
Speaking about Taking Back My Heart, she says, "There is a lot of power and strength behind the lyrics, one I hope resonates with others in similar situations to not be scared of being on your own if you're not truly happy."
Tell us three things about yourself
My name is Lea Heart. I am a 21-year-old singer/songwriter from Kildare. I’ve been singing since I was four years old, doing every musical, singing contest and show I could. During lockdown, I began posting covers and originals on Instagram and TikTok which is where my management today found me.
How would you describe your music?
My music style is definitely upbeat, pop music. I love creating songs that can instantly put someone in a good mood. However, it’s also extremely important to me that that is depth to my lyrics, discussing relevant and heartfelt topics that others can relate to.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Growing up, Adele was a huge inspiration of mine. I used to cover her songs all the time and really looked up to her as a songwriter. Recently, I’ve been getting a lot of my inspiration from female pop singers like myself. I love Anne-Marie, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo and Maisie Peters. Their musical style and success really motivates me to continue following my dreams.
What was the first gig you ever went to and the first record you ever bought/downloaded?
My first ever concert was to see Westlife in the 3Arena when I was seven! I remember being so mesmerised by the venue, production, and their performance. It was definitely a moment that made me realise how much I wanted to be up there one day! The first song I remember downloading on my first phone was Rihanna’s Please Don’t Stop The Music.
What’s your favourite song right now?
I can never pick a favourite song as I always have about five songs I listen to on repeat for a few weeks but my favourite artists at the moment are Gracie Abrams, Holly Humberstone, Maisie Peters and Jeremy Zucker.
Favourite lyric of all time?
"I will rise, and I will return, the phoenix from the flame" - Troy by Sinead O Connor.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Probably WALLS by Kings Of Leon. I will never get sick of that song, there’s something so therapeutic about it!
Where can people find your music/more information?
You can find me on all social media @iamleaheart. My music is on every streaming platform too, just search Lea Heart!
