Oprah Winfrey to produce Sidney Poitier documentary

Oprah Winfrey is producing a documentary about Hollywood legend Sidney Poitier, who died earlier this week aged 94.

Poitier, who was the first Black man to win the Best Actor Oscar, died earlier this week aged 94. His death was confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Bahamas, Fred Mitchell.

Deadline has reported Winfrey has teamed up with Apple and has been working on a documentary about the Oscar-winner for more than a year.

Winfrey will produce the in-depth film through her Harpo Productions and Network Entertainment, and it will include input from Poitier's family.

Poitier, who starred in starred in Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, In The Heat Of The Night, To Sir, With Love, and The Defiant Ones, won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1964 for Lilies Of The Field.

He was also nominated for a further two Oscars, 10 Golden Globes and six BAFTAs.
