Treaty Live

David McCullagh and Sinéad O'Carroll present Treaty Live, there’s plenty of chat on The Late Late Show and The Graham Norton Show, while Would I Lie To You? And Death in Paradise return . . .

Pick of the Day

Treaty Live, 7.00pm, RTÉ One

David McCullagh (below) and Sinéad O'Carroll present a programme imagining how modern TV might have reported the Dáil's vote on the Anglo-Irish Treaty on January 7, 1922.

Anyone who saw the 'live’ news coverage of the 1916 Rising during the 50th anniversary of those events in 1966 will get the drift.

The events of this momentous evening unfold as breaking news in the present tense, explaining this complex but crucial period in the nation's history in an innovative and original way.

This was the moment Ireland was split in two, with repercussions that remain to this day.

Don’t Miss

The Late Late Show, 9.35pm, RTÉ One

Charlie Bird and a cast of willing volunteers will launch the inaugural Climb with Charlie event on this week's show, the first of 2022.

Charlie, along with Vicky Phelan, hopes to inspire thousands of Irish people to climb Croagh Patrick and other peaks around the country on April 2.

Viewers will also hear from Mary McAleese, Davy Fitzgerald, Baz Ashmawy, Joanna Donnelly, Dr Harry Barry, Dermot Bannon, Karl Henry and others who are throwing their full support behind the epic climb.

Also: Leitrim actor and writer Seamus O'Rourke will be giving us his inimitable take on "new year, new you", while comedian Jason Byrne will be talking through his trials and tribulations of the last year.

Music comes from Niamh Farrell and Somebody's Child covering songs by The Beatles - and we may even get to have a look inside Bosco's box.

The Graham Norton Show, 11.05pm, BBC One

Graham chats to double-Oscar-winning Hollywood great Denzel Washington about his part in Joel Coen's film The Tragedy of Macbeth (above) and Martin Freeman reflects on his new BBC police drama The Responder.

Actress Nina Sosanya talks about new Channel 4 prison dramedy Screw, while top comic Josh Widdicombe also joins the host.

Plus, Years & Years perform their current single Sweet Talker.

New or Returning Shows

Would I Lie to You? 8.30pm, BBC One

Death in Paradise, 9.00pm, BBC One

Ralf Little and Josephine Jobert are back for the latest run of this seemingly endless whodunit about a British cop posted to the fictitious Caribbean island of Saint Marie.

He is totally unsuited to a life of sun, sea and sand, but his investigative skills come in handy for solving murder – a common occurrence on this otherwise idyllic island.

When a seemingly simple kidnapping ends in murder, Neville and the team must work out what went wrong and how someone wound up dead.

8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, 9.00pm, Channel 4

Jimmy Carr hosts as Roisin Conaty and Kiri Pritchard-McLean take on Jon Richardson and Rob Beckett.

Comedian Huge Davies, meanwhile, is in Dictionary Corner, while regular Countdown mathematician Rachel Riley and lexicographer Susie Dent are on hand to adjudicate.

In the third and final run of this adaptation of Deborah Harkness’ All Souls trilogy, vampire Matthew (Matthew Goode) and witch Diana (Teresa Palmer) return from 1590 to find tragedy at Sept-Tours.

In the opening episode, Matthew and Diana return from Elizabethan London to discover a chaotic scene.

Peter Knox’s attack has left Em dead and Sept-Tours in shock. But amongst the darkness comes unexpected news: Diana is carrying twins.

New to Stream

Hype House, Netflix

I got a headache just thinking about this show. Gotta be worth a look though.

It promises to be a revealing look at the lives of prominent American social media types.

The Hype House is the name of a collective of teenage TikTok personalities based in Los Angeles, California, as well as the name of the mansion where some of the creators formerly lived.

It’s a collaborative content house, allowing the different influencers and content creators to make videos together with minimum ease.

Members include Thomas Petrou, Alex Warren, Kouvr Annon, Jack Wright, Chase Hudson.

A Quiet Place Part II, Sky Cinema & NOW

This is a sequel to the 2018 horror hit. Looks like fun.

Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence.

Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realise that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.
