A new date for the Grammys is yet to be announced

It has been announced that the Grammy Awards, which were due to take place in Los Angeles at the end of the month, have been postponed due to the Omicron surge in the US.

In a statement, Grammys organiser the Recording Academy and broadcaster CBS said: "After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual Grammy Awards show.

"The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31 simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating 'Music's Biggest Night' on a future date, which will be announced soon."

Jazz musician Jon Batiste leads the nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards with 11 nods, followed by Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R with eight apiece.

On Wednesday, it was also confirmed that the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah will be a virtual event for the second year in a row.
