Former London Irish rugby player Conor Gilsenan will be flying the flag as one of the 16 contestants on the new series of BBC One's The Apprentice.

The Mullingar man, who retired from the game due to injury in September 2020, was revealed as a possible future business partner for show boss Alan Sugar on Tuesday when the contestant line-up was unveiled.

"His business idea consists of a fleet of quirky food and beverage vendors targeted at music and sports events," said the BBC.

The new series begins on BBC One on Thursday

Gilsenan described himself to the broadcaster as "hyper-motivated by money".

"I'm going to be the corporate panther in the boardroom," said the former flanker, who came through the ranks at Leinster and represented Ireland at underage level.

"I'm going to get it done, and I'm going to be Lord Sugar's perfect business partner."

The new series of The Apprentice begins on BBC One on Thursday 6 January at 9:00pm.
