Here are just some of the great shows on today . . .
Rachael Blackmore: A Grand Year, 9.25pm, RTÉ One
We all have our sporting biases, but there's no doubt that 2021 was pretty much a year of years for Rachael Blackmore.
This here’s a look at the jockey's rise to the pinnacle of horse racing and her historic success when she became the first female jockey to win the English Grand National.
She also became the first woman to be leading jockey at the Cheltenham Festival with six victories.
Blackmore's groundbreaking achievement led to her winning the 2021 RTÉ Sports Person of the Year and the BBC Sports Personality World Sport Star of the Year awards.
This documentary features contributions from Rachael and her family, as well as the likes of legendary jockeys AP McCoy and Ruby Walsh.
Tom Allen’s Quizness, 10.00pm, Channel 4
The ubiquitous Tom Allen invites actress Siobhán McSweeney, comedian Jo Brand, TV judge Robert Rinder and presenter AJ Odudu to go head-to-head to win up to £25,000 for charity.
As usual, there's a twist to the comedy quiz - if they want to win the game, they must prove their brains by looking daft, with fiendish questions on anything from Richard III to Big Bird.
Frankie Boyle’s 2021 New World Order, 10.00pm, BBC Two
The bearded Boyler may not be everyone’s can of Irn Bru, but this should be a fun and scathing review of the year.
Between covid, idiot politicians, and the general madness that’s been in the air, it’s going to be difficult to reduce 2021 to a few major events and moments. But it should be fun.
Followed at 10.45pm by a highlights and unseen footage special looking back on the show’s recent run in which the comedian tries to make sense of the modern world, featuring guests Miles Jupp, Sophie Duker, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Jamali Maddix, Ahir Shah and Desiree Burch.
The Voice Kids, 8.00pm, Virgin Media One
The final of the competition gets underway, promising battles, show-stopping solos, and an unforgettable coach performance.
The 16 young singers are joined by their superstar coaches Melanie C (below), Danny Jones, Pixie Lott and will.i.am to see who will be crowned champion in a festive finale.
Followed at 10pm by Tommy Fleming - Live at Knock Basilica.
A Star is Born, 9.00pm, BBC One
The umpteenth remake of this tale, but it’s a pretty good retelling.
Following a gig, fading music star Jackson Maine stumbles upon Ally, a nightclub singer-songwriter.
Their instant chemistry leads to a tempestuous romance as he helps her on the road to stardom.
But Jackson's alcoholism has explosive repercussions as her career blossoms.
In case you don’t know, this Oscar winner stars Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, who also directed.
Fans of the former should also look out for Lady Gaga at the BBC (11.20pm, BBC Two).
