With new love on the horizon for Fair City's Cristiano this festive season, things are looking up after a very difficult few years. We caught up with actor Rodrigo Ternevoy to get the lowdown on what's going on this Christmas and beyond.
Cristiano had a very difficult 2021. Are things looking up for him this Christmas?
Cristiano has had a very hard few years lately but this year, for a change, he feels like things are finally turning. He is looking forward to spending as much time as possible with his new boyfriend Patrick and Patrick's sister Áine.
Do you think he's processed everything that happened with Will?
I don't think anyone who went through what Cris did with Will will ever be able to turn the page and forget everything that has happened in their abusive relationship. They learn how to live with those experiences and memories in a way that they feel comfortable and able to move on with their lives. Cris is surrounded by some really good friends and now with Patrick he feels he has everything he needs to take the next step in his life.
What first attracted Cristiano to Patrick?
I think the first thing that attracted Cristiano to Patrick was that they both had a connection with Will. I don't think Cris even realised it at first but they somehow shared this deep connection with him and that brought them together in a quite unusual way. Cris being Cris also happened to find Patrick a catch since they first met at the graveyard.
Do you think Cristiano is rushing into the romance too quickly after all that's happened, or are you hopeful the relationship will last?
It seems that they are falling in love a bit too quick but they are both adults, they have everything going for them and Cris has experienced a lot throughout his life. I am sure he is allowing himself to fall for Patrick but he's still keeping his two feet on the ground. I hope their relationship flourishes even more and he finds real love again. He deserves it!
Mairead and Damien have been such good friends to Cristiano this past year. Does he feel grateful for their friendships more than ever this Christmas?
Absolutely. Cris keeps reminding them that what they did for him was out of this world and he will be eternally grateful. Especially Mairead being Will's ex-wife; she really formed some sort of family bond with Cris since day one. They are like brother and sister.
Do you know what's in store for Cristiano in 2022?
I don't know for sure. All I can hope for Cris in the new year is lots of love and happiness. That's exactly what he deserves for everything he's been through since he arrived in Carrigstown back in 2016.
