Good Morning Britain will be off air between Christmas and New Year after ITV took the unprecedented decision to stop broadcasting the show due to mounting fears about Covid-19.
The Sun has reported that the show's presenters have been asked to do their own hair and makeup during the festive season to reduce the number of studio crew on set.
However, the Christmas Day episode of GMB will air as planned, as it has already been pre-recorded.
"There is a special GMB Christmas Day show which airs from 7 to 9am," an ITV spokesperson said, adding that it has been challenging to remain on-air due to enforced staff shortages.
"GMB was due to be on air from Wednesday the 29th to Friday 31st December 2021 but due to the pandemic and to protect our teams, we have decided to give them an extended break," the spokesperson said.
"GMB will not broadcast next week, but will be back on air on Tuesday, January 4, 2022."
On Sunday, ITV said it would production of Good Morning Britain and mid-morning show Lorraine in an effort to "protect our team both on and off screen" from the Omicron variant of Covid.
