Viewers have reacted to the shocking twist in the first episode of the Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That... saying they were "sobbing", "speechless" and "shook".

The first two episodes of the highly-anticipated series dropped on Thursday and saw leading star Sarah Jessica Parker getting back into character as New York City columnist Carrie Bradshaw, alongside Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes and Kristin Davis as Charlotte York, with Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones notably absent.

Chris Noth reprised his role as Carrie's husband Mr Big and scenes in the first episodes saw the couple happily married in their post-lockdown bubble, cooking for one another, sipping wine and listening to records.

Their marital bliss was shockingly turned on its head when Carrie arrived home from Charlotte's daughter's piano's recital to find her husband collapsed in the shower, seemingly having suffered a heart attack following a vigorous workout on his exercise bike.

A panicked Carrie desperately tried to help her husband, but he died in her arms. Poignantly, the iconic blue Manolo Blahniks she wore to their wedding slipped off her feet and became soaked in the shower.

The twist left viewers stunned, and many watching at home were in tears at the devastating scenes.
