The Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival (Virgin Media DIFF) has announced that it is postponing the presentation of its Volta Award to Oscar-winning The Big Short and Anchorman director Adam McKay, which was due to take place at a special screening of his new film Don't Look Up next week.
In a statement, the festival said: "Owing to the recent changes in government guidelines relating to the social and cultural activities in Ireland for the next four weeks, the organisers have decided with a heavy heart to postpone our planned award ceremony and presentation to Adam McKay on December 16th.
"We will reschedule this planned celebration of Adam and his new film Don't Look Up for a new date in the new year when we hope that his fans and fellow filmmakers might join us in person to celebrate his career.
"The safety of filmmakers, staff and guests is our main priority, and the festival is committed to presenting its full festival line up both in person and online from February 23rd to March 6th.
"Thank you for you continued support and we look forward to seeing you at the festival next Spring."
McKay will receive the Volta Award in 2022 for his contribution to film, joining an honour roll that includes Daniel Day-Lewis, Angela Lansbury, Al Pacino and Kristin Scott Thomas. The Volta Award is named after Ireland's first dedicated cinema, established by author James Joyce in 1909.

McKay's Don't Look Up, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in a comedy-drama about the end of the world, opens in selected cinemas this Friday. It will be available on Netflix from Christmas Eve.
