The Australian director also revealed a release date of June 24 next year for the delayed movie which reports say spans twenty years and is simply entitled Elvis.
The film was mostly made in Australia and Luhrmann, who hasn’t released a movie since 2013’s The Great Gatsby, has posted a twenty-second teaser trailer.
Along with an atmospheric version of Suspicious Minds, the clip sees Butler as a young Elvis seen from behind.

It also includes shots of Butler as Elvis walking backstage in his trademark performance attire.
Posting on Twitter, co-writer and co-director Luhrmann - who also made Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge! - said, "Made a little something to let you good people know we are taking care of business on June 24, 2022."
The release of the movie was delayed several times due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with filming halted in March last year when Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson tested positive for the virus.
The cast also includes Olivia DeJonge as Elvis' wife Priscilla Presley, Yola Quartey as musician Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Hacksaw Ridge star Luke Bracey as talent manager Jerry Schilling.

Entertainment Tonight previously reported that the casting of Elvis was a big decision, with Luhrmann saying that he couldn't make the film if the actor wasn't "absolutely right."
He added that Butler, who starred in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Dead Don't Die and MTV's The Shannara Chronicles, could "embody the spirit of one of the world's most iconic musical figures."
Butler told E! News: "I've just got to say how profoundly honoured I am that Baz has invited me on this journey with him. It's truly the privilege of a lifetime."
Olivia DeJonge will also star as Priscilla Presley, while David Wenham, who starred in The Lord of the Rings franchise has also been cast.
