The creator of Squid Game has confirmed that there will be a second series of the dystopian drama.
The first season of the Korean series quickly became Netflix's biggest ever hit and speaking to the Associated Press, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk said that season two will go ahead.
"There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So, I almost feel like you leave us no choice!" he said.
"But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen."
Squid Game, which was about a group of people in financial difficulties who battle to the death for a prize of €30 million, became Netflix's biggest series launch ever with the streaming giant claiming that it was watched by 111 million viewers worldwide in 17 days.
Hwang added that Gi-hun, the protagonist of the show played by Lee Jung-jae, will be back in the second series.
"I promise you this, Gi-hun will return. He will do something for the world."
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Hwang revealed that working on the show was "draining" and so stressful that he lost six teeth.
"It was physically, mentally and emotionally draining. I kept having new ideas and revising the episodes as we were filming so the amount of work multiplied." he said.
