Kells trio HamsandwicH have released their new single, Electro~Wave. We asked lead singer Niamh Farrell the BIG questions . . .
Electro~Wave is the band's first new music since Reactions in 2018 and is the first single to be released from their upcoming new and as-of-yet untitled album which will be out in the Spring 2022.
Speaking about the new song, band member Podge McNamee says, "Our main objective with Electro~Wave was to really explore new territory vocally and to make regular vocals sound almost robotic in their delivery.

"Another was to test out a more punchy approach to our writing which we felt really suited us live with previous recent track Bodies. Electro~Wave is also one of the only HamsandwicH songs to be released that does not have a breakdown as such so it’s keeps ticking along from start to finish. I cannot wait to see how this will be received in live settings. Hopefully it becomes a monster!"
HamsandwicH have announced a nationwide tour across Ireland from November 2021 to January 2022. Tickets via www.tegmjr-eire.ie, Ticketmaster.ie, and individual venues.
Tell us three things about yourself?
I’m a singer in a band called HamsandwicH. I absolutely love performing live and I can do a pretty spot-on Cher impression.
How would you describe your music?
Indie/electro/pop.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Kate Bush, George Michael, Karen Carpenter, Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, The Smashing Pumpkins. A real mixed bag.
What was the first gig you ever went to and the first record you ever bought/downloaded?
I have a vague memory of seeing Boyzone in their orange boiler suits in The Point when I was young! The first record I ever bought was probably a Zig and Zag album!
What’s your favourite song right now?
At the minute I can’t get enough of Guilty by Barbra Streisand and Barry Gibb. It’s an absolute tune and puts me in an immediate good mood when I stick it on!
Favourite lyric of all time?
"Kiss me, please kiss me, kiss me out of desire baby, not consolation" Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye. That whole song is amazingly written but this line always stood out!
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?
After having a good long think about this, it would have to be This is The Day by The The. It’s a good mix of mellow and upbeat and I think it would take a long time before I hated it!
