U2 have released Your Song Saved My Life, a new track featured on the soundtrack to the upcoming Sing 2, which sees Bono making his animated film debut as the voice of reclusive rock star lion Clay Calloway.

The song is the first new music from the band since 2019 and was previewed on the band's official TikTok channel yesterday ahead of a first official play by Dave Fanning RTÉ 2FM and BBC Radio 2’s Jo Whiley on Wednesday evening.

In Sing 2, the U2 front man plays a former king of the rock and roll jungle who has shunned the limelight for 15 years but who is tempted back on stage by Buster the koala and his all-star cast of performers as they prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet.

The returning cast includes Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, Taron Egerton, Tori Kelly and Nick Kroll and the new movie will feature songs by the likes of Shawn Mendes' There's No Holdin' Me Back and a rather freaky version of the already freaky Bury a Friend by Billy Eilish.

Bobby Cannavale also joins the cast as ruthless mogul wolf named Jimmy Crystal, while the likes of Halsey, Pharrell Williams, Letitia Wright, Eric Andre, and Chelsea Peretti from Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Chelsea Peretti will also make their debut appearances in the new movie.

U2 have contributed to numerous movie soundtracks over the years and have been nominated twice in the Best Original Song category at the Academy Awards for The Hands That Built America for Gangs of New York in 2003 and Ordinary Love from Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom in 2014.

Sing 2 is in cinemas in January.
