Galway singer Tony Cunningham has become the second singer to make it through to the grand final of Last Singer Standing on RTÉ One.
The 33-year-old has been playing music for 20 years and was a professional gigging musician pre-Covid. During lockdown he built a recording studio at his home and is now moving towards the production side of things.
Tony joins Alex King from the first show in the finale, with the pair singing for the chance to win €25,000.
In December 2021, Tony set up a 'Go Fund Me' fundraiser to help him to obtain weight loss surgery. If he won Last Singer Standing, he says it is the first thing he would do with his prize money.
"It's something that would drastically improve my life and me being able to catch my son when he runs away," Tony told Nicky Byrne before his first performance on Saturday.
On Saturday night's show, Tony's first song choice was Home by Michael Buble, which saw his fellow contestants vote to save him over 18-year-old Evelyn Akinade.
Tony's second song, Ed Sheeran's Castle on the Hill, got a challenge from 22-year-old Charley White, who sang Whitney Houston's hit I Have Nothing.
When he found out he was through to the final, Tony said, "That's awesome, that's epic, thank you so much, that means the absolute world to me."
Last Singer Standing continues Saturday on RTÉ One at 8.20pm.
