Ryan Reynolds has revealed he is taking "a little sabbatical" from movie-making after wrapping filming on his latest project Spirited.

The actor and producer took to Instagram to announce the news, posting a series of behind-the-scenes photos from the Christmas-themed musical film along with the caption: "That's a wrap for me on Spirited. Not sure I’d have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago.

"Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer…"

He then shared: "Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I'm gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists.

"These days, kindness matters as much as talent. I’ve been lucky to work with folks who are flush with both."

The 44-year-old Deadpool and Free Guy star hinted that he was taking time off work to take care of his three children with wife Blake Lively on his Instagram stories.

He posted the definition of a sabbatical, which said it was a break from work to give you time to do things such as "travel, study or complete a major side project", before scratching that out and writing "parent".

The Apple TV+ movie Spirited is described as "a modern musical reimagining" of the Charles Dickens story A Christmas Carol and sees Reynolds plays the Ebenezer Scrooge character.

An official release date has not yet been revealed.
