Jamie Lee Curtis: 'Ireland has a very special place in my heart'

Award-winning actress and queen of horror movies Jamie Lee Curtis shares her grá for Ireland, telling RTÉ Entertainment that it holds a very special place in her heart.

Lee Curtis has been playing iconic Halloween character Laurie Strode for over 40 years, reprising the role for a sixth time in the latest instalment of the horror franchise Halloween Kills.

Halloween Kills is the middle of the new Halloween trilogy which kicked off with 2018's Halloween and will end with 2022's Halloween Ends.

It picks up right where the 2018 movie left off, with Michael Myers in a burning house and Laurie Strode in an ambulance after he stabbed her in the stomach.

Speaking about Laurie, who she first played when she was first 19, Lee Curtis said: "I really feel for her. I have had a couple of stumbles in my life that I have recovered from. I have been sober for 22, coming up on 23 years and I'm not saying my stumbles were ever noticed by anybody but I noticed them for sure.

"So I really do feel her pain. I feel her lack of any support, she never got any mental health care, so I want to put my arms around her.

She added: "I want to be the person who says to her, 'It's going to be ok, you are going to be ok.'"

Lee Curtis was also keen to talk about her love for Ireland and the friends she has in the Emerald Isle.

"I have a lot of friends in Ireland. John Boorman lives in Ireland. Lainey Keogh lives in Ireland. Sinéad Burke lives in Ireland. Sinéad and I became girlfriends. She came and she stayed at my house. I was on her podcast. We are girlfriends. She is delightful.

"I love the people of Ireland. I've made real friends in Ireland. I made a movie there, I have visited the Wicklow mountains many times. It has a very special place in my heart."
