Cian Ducrot: classic flautist turned pop act

Cork-born, London-based solo artist Cian Ducrot has released his new single, Make Believe and plays Dublin's Academy 2 on November 3. We asked him the BIG questions . . .

"The inspiration for Make Believe struck me over sushi in London one night. I rushed straight to my studio and started getting the inspiration for a song about falling in love with someone who hasn’t been loved before," he says.

"I 'voice noted’ all my ideas and chords and I knew what I had was special. I wrote the second verse a few days later and finished it on a scooter ride through London and while making a sandwich. Safe to say it was the longest it’s taken me to make a sandwich."

24-year-old Ducrot is currently on tour with Los Angeles band LANY and has been steadily releasing since signing to Darkroom/Interscope Records.

After focusing on music in school, he won a full scholarship to study classical flute at the Royal Academy of Music in London. However, following a trip to Los Angeles, he was inspired to pursue his dream of becoming a pop artist instead of a classical flautist.
