Two co-hosts of the American morning television show The View tested positive for Covid-19 just before US Vice President Kamala Harris was scheduled to appear in a live interview on Friday, forcing her to appear remotely.

Vice President Harris had been due to make her first planned in-studio appearance as vice president. But just before she was set to appear with the morning show's four co-hosts, to discuss everything from abortion to immigration, presenters Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro were asked to leave.

"At the last minute we realised they had tested positive," co-host Joy Behar said. She added the Harris interview would be remote "because they don't want to take a chance".

Ana Navarro

The vice president's interview appeared to have been cut short due to the positive tests.

Vice President Harris travelled to New York to appear on the ABC show, which is in its 25th season and was ranked the most popular morning news or talk show in America with 2.967 million daily viewers in the first quarter of 2021.

Commenting on the positive Covid tests, Vice President Harris said: "Sunny and Ana are strong women and I know they're fine. But it really also does speak to the fact that they're vaccinated and vaccines really make all the difference. Because otherwise, we would be concerned about hospitalisation and worse."
