Phoebe Dynevor has revealed that she had a flight booked to "throw in the towel" and leave Hollywood just before being cast in her breakthrough role in Bridgerton.

The 26-year-old star's life changed when she was cast to play Daphne Bridgerton in the hit Netflix series, and it came at a pivotal time for her as she was just about to give up on Hollywood and go home to the UK.

Bridgerton is in the running for 12 Emmys at Sunday night’s ceremony including Outstanding Drama Series and Lead Actor for Regé-Jean Page.

"I’d been living in LA for nine months," Dynevor recalled to The Mirror UK. "I was ready to go home, sort of throw in the towel, and see the family for a bit.

"I told my flatmate, 'I’m so sorry, I have to go’ and to sell my furniture and sort it out.

"Bless her, thankfully she’s still my friend!"

Though her bags were packed, fate had other plans.

"I got a call saying, ‘Can you come in and read with Regé next week?’ So I was like, ‘That’s annoying because I’ve got to move my flight. I hope it pays off," she continued.

"I didn’t think anything of it. Then the next day they were like, ‘Netflix will pay for your flight back to London as you’ve got to be in rehearsals on Monday’. It was a really crazy whirlwind."
