Phoebe Waller-Bridge has reportedly exited Amazon's reboot of Mr & Mrs Smith over "creative differences" with co-star Donald Glover.
The Fleabag creator had been lined up to lead the series, the adaptation of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's 2005 action-comedy of the same name, alongside Atlanta creator Glover. The actors previously worked together on 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Glover came up with the idea for the reboot of Doug Liman's film, in which Pitt and Jolie play a bored married couple who are surprised to discover that they are both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other, and brought it to Waller-Bridge.
Sources have now told US entertainment trade publication The Hollywood Reporter that Waller-Bridge had a different creative vision for the series than Glover, which led to her decision to drop out.
It has been reported that they "remain friends" following what was described as "an amicable split".
Waller-Bridge's role will now be recast, while Glover is still attached to star, as well as working in his roles as co-creator and executive producer. Francesca Sloane, a collaborator with Glover on Atlanta, is co-creator and showrunner on the series.
Writing on the series is currently under way, with production expected to begin next year. The series is reportedly still on track to be released in 2022.
