Music producer Louis Walsh has said that he welcomes the return of Abba to the music scene.

The legendary Swedish pop group announced yesterday that the quartet are to release a brand new studio album called Voyage - and will perform digitally in London next May. The news comes 40 years after the band's last recording The Visitors.

Speaking on RTÉ Radio 1's Morning Ireland on Friday, the Mayo man was asked did he ever think he would listen to a new Abba song.

"I didn't because 40 years is a long time. They sound great, as fresh as ever", he said of the band's latest release.

Next year, the band will hold a "revolutionary" concert that blends the physical and the digital worlds..

Walsh was asked how it would go down with fans: "It's only for 3,000 people in London which I think will sell out.

"The songs are good and the girls Frida and Agnetha sound as good as ever.

"Well you know what, Abba Gold has always been in the charts, you have Mamma Mia! the musical, Mamma Mia! the movie.

"They have always been in the top ten of the charts somewhere in the world, it's timeless and just what the world needs right now, a good bit of decent pop music."

"I downloaded the two songs last night. It's great music and great to have them back and Frida and Agnetha just sound amazing", he added.
