2FM Breakfast host Doireann Garrihy has said she felt "really lucky" that the show could be a "great escape" for listeners during lockdown.
Garrihy co-hosts the breakfast show with Donncha O'Callaghan and Carl Mullan and she said she was also grateful to be able to continue doing her job when others couldn’t.
When asked if she felt a greater connection with her audience who were turning to the show at that time, she said: "Yeah definitely I think so, especially the likes of frontliners going home from a night shift, we’re on air from 6am, but I think all people wanted, the show is a great escape from the news and it’s just music, fun, competitions.
"I feel really lucky that we could do that and keep working throughout the pandemic when other people couldn’t, and having the routine was great for us as well.
"But yeah you’d hear it with callers that they’d say, 'awh it’s great to have you on while working from home, it gives me a bit of normality.’ It was great."
2FM Breakfast is on weekday mornings from 6am.
