Pick of the Day
Different League: The Derry City Story, 10.35pm, RTÉ One
Streaming on RTÉ Player
Here’s something that should put a smile on your face and once again proves that sport can be a hugely unifying force.
It’s a compelling documentary about how football club Derry City made a comeback in 1985 - after withdrawing from the Irish League in 1972 - when they were invited to join the League of Ireland.
Featuring interviews with the likes of Tony O'Doherty, Terry Harkin, Eddie Mahon and Eamonn McLaughlin (above), who became known as the Gang of Four, as they were behind the club's rebirth.
There's also rare archive footage and memories of various supporters.
And you don’t have to be a sports fan to enjoy this story. This is as much about the people and sense place of Derry as the reemergence of the city’s football club.
