Soap actor Sid Owen has said he does not mind being confused with his EastEnder's character Ricky Butcher.

Speaking to Baz Ashmawy on The Ryan Tubridy Show, he said: "To be honest, at times I will agree, yes it can be annoying, but also I'm very thankful with how sort of popular and well the character went down with the public. I will always be grateful for that.

"So the pros definitely outweighed the cons," Owen added.

Asked about the impact of starting out on the soap at the young age and if people have a sense of ownership of him, he shared: "It's kind of weird, it's sort of nothing you will ever get used to.

"It's pretty bizarre, I'm definitely, you know a little piece of public property, that's for sure."

At 16, Owen joined EastEnders. He said of the experience: "Going into this huge show, already the biggest show on TV, everyone knew EastEnders, I joined it two or three years into it.

"It was always a trial for me, 'If you do a good job and the public likes you, we will keep you on for a bit,' so for me, you know, it was scary as I was walking onto something that everyone knew.

"Luckily, I was the youngest member of the cast at that time, they took me in under their wing everyone was caring and looked out for me, I was lucky in that sense."

The How Clean Is Your House presenter got a role in a British historical drama called Revolution with Al Pacino aged 13.

Discussing the audition process he said: "They basically, producers and directors or casting directors come and watch us improvise, the first audition of Revolution we were just going about every day class and business. It didn't mean much to us. We would just do what we did.

"They used to give us a feed line, 'someone has nicked you pencil case, I want my pencil case back' and you talk to an oblong box, or you do a duet.

"So this one, we have to tell you, that your mum's died, I did this audition and for some reason I started crying my eyes out so that got me to the second audition which was in London in the posh swanky what is now the Mandarin Hotel.

"I was 13 and I wasn't even aware of who Al Pacino was when I saw him, to me he looked like Sylvester Stallone, I thought he was Rocky, at that time Rocky was a huge huge hit. It went from there.

"Dexter Fletcher who is now a huge director, he has done Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocket Man, he was in the movie as his mom was an agent and he played me older.

"They needed a kid that looked like Dexter and luckily, I fitted the part and that was it, the rest is history."
