Armagh singer Chris Molloy aka Zang has released his new single, Where Do You Go? We asked him the BIG questions . . .

The track is the second single from Zang's upcoming album The Point of No Return, which is due for release on August 6.

Speaking about Where Do You Go?, he says, "This was the first song recorded for the album. At that stage I was asking a lot of questions regarding my mental health, along with some of the decisions made off the back of it.

"It’s really easy to get caught up in a cycle of self-destruction to a point where you lose track of who you really are. It’s about asking `Why do you do the things you do?’. I think it helped me see that I’m not the villain in this story, well, not all the time . . . even though we’re capable of doing ridiculously stupid things, at the heart of it there is good in there somewhere."

He adds, "I'm doing a Charity Fundraiser for PIPS (Public Initiative for Prevention of Suicide and Self–harm) as it's a charity close to my heart. These guys are not government funded and rely on donations. So, all digital sales from the single will go to PIPS at this link. And if you just want to make a donation you can use this link.

Tell us three things about yourself?

People think I’m a Belfast boy but I’m actually from Lurgan, County Armagh. I’m a total lefty - left-handed, left-footed, left politically, left out in the cold!

How would you describe your music?

It’s like a mash-up up of loads of cool 90s ideas? Serious yet with an Irish sense of humour. Lots of genres popping up. A surprise hopefully!

Who are your musical inspirations?

It’s too easy for me to say The Beatles. Radiohead. The 1990s. Over lockdown I spent a lot of time listening to The Strokes and Run The Jewels. I keep getting inspired every day. The radio is a goldmine if you tune into the right programmes.

How did you occupy yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?

I walked a lot. I listened to a lot of music. I went to work every day as normal. And then I started writing and recording. When I wasn’t walking and working, I was recording, and it ended up turning into an album. That was about a year of my life. And I moved house. It was intense.

What’s your favourite song right now?

Something About Us by Daft Punk. The textures are phenomenal. Funky yet so beautifully tender.

Favourite lyric of all time?

Tough question. Can’t seem to shake this one off . . . "All broken down by the side of the road I's never more alive or alone I've worn the faces off all the cards I'm gonna take it with me when I go"

Take It With Me - Tom Waits.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?

I can’t even imagine that insanity! I’ll take Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, good bit of diversity in the three movements. Can I have all three? I think that’s legal?!

Where can people find your music/more information?

Should be handy enough to find under The Zang! online, or you can check the link.
