Grammy winner Dua Lipa is to make her acting debut alongside Henry Cavill, Bryan Cranston, Bryce Dallas Howard and Samuel L Jackson in Argylle, a new spy thriller franchise from Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn.

Entertainment trade publication The Hollywood Reporter says Argylle also includes John Cena, Catherine O'Hara and Sam Rockwell among its cast and will begin filming in Europe next month.

Dua Lipa will also work on the title track and score.

Argylle is an adaptation of the upcoming book of the same name by Ellie Conway and "follows the world's greatest spy Argylle as he is caught up in a globe-trotting adventure".

It is planned as the first of at least three films. Conway's book will be published next year.

"When I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming's books of the 50s," said director Vaughn. "This is going to reinvent the spy genre."

Vaughn's new Kingsman adventure, The King's Man, is due in cinemas on 22 December.
