The Tomorrow War, Amazon Prime

Here’s an all-action sci-fi movie that should be an ideal accompaniment to popcorn and a fizzy drink.

The world is stunned when a group of time travelers arrive from the year 2051 to deliver an urgent message: thirty years in the future, mankind is losing a global war against a deadly alien species.

The only hope for survival is for soldiers and civilians from the present to be transported to the future and join the fight.

Among those recruited is high school teacher and family man Dan Forester (Chris Pratt).

Determined to save the world for his young daughter, Dan teams up with a brilliant scientist (Yvonne Strahovski) and his estranged father (JK Simmons) in a desperate quest to rewrite the fate of the planet.

It's time to Canuck n’ Roll as the Beeb celebrate Canada Day with a trip through the best of the BBC’s music archives, exploring some of that nation’s finest music stars.

It’s a collection encompassing song-writing legends such as Joni Mitchell, kd lang and Leonard Cohen (below), with added pop perfection in the shape of Justin Bieber and Avril Lavigne.

There’s also Alanis Morisette, Arcade Fire, Nickelback and Bryan Adams, and with some added Celine Dion, Michael Buble and Shania Twain.

Followed by kd lang in the BBC Sessions at 10.30pm and Michael Buble at the BBC at 11.30pm.

No Place Like Home, 7.30pm, RTÉ One

Kathryn Thomas (above) highlights the southeast charm of county Wexford, known for its long golden beaches and medieval history.

She remembers being a child in Cahore, explores the scenic lake walk in Johnstown Castle, and kayaks at Hook Head.

In present day San Dimas, the two would-be rockers - now both dads in their fifties - still haven’t written the song that will bring the world together, and the people of the future are starting to get a little worried.

Still lacking the talent to create this new song, the duo resort to travelling through time to steal it from their older selves.

Meanwhile, their young daughters devise their own musical scheme to help their fathers bring harmony to the universe.
