24-year-old, Dublin-based singer-songwriter Conor Hamilton-Long has released his third single, Rat Race. We asked him the BIG questions . . .
Citing influences such as Sam Fender and Nothing But Thieves, he began his music career in 2018 by writing and recording his own music in his bedroom.
Speaking about Rat Race, he says, "It's about going for what you truly desire in life. Especially on the social media side of things, quite a lot of people are out to impress others but not to improve in themselves.
"I've found that what is important is to focus on yourself and your own happiness, not on how others perceive you or your success as it can be an extremely tiring and draining trap to fall into. I was a victim of it myself.
"The comparison mindset is a tricky one and one that I tended to automatically have when scrolling or whatever. This song is a message to my younger self and anyone out there, to just go for it, and stop caring about what others think.
"Most of the time people are too wrapped up in their own insecurities and anxieties to care about what you're doing. You've got one life!"
Tell us three things about yourself?
I am Australian born.
I have been writing/performing music for three years now.
I learned guitar so I could add instrumentation to my melodies.
How would you describe your music?
As a combination of alternative pop music with a strong R&B influence as well as some indie sprinkles in there too.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Col3trane. Miguel, Brent Faiyez, Nothing But Thieves, Majid Jordan.
What are you most looking forward to post-lockdown?
Getting to play some live music.
