Anna Paquin says Hugh Jackman was "put through the wringer" while making the first-ever X-Men film.
The Oscar-winning actress starred alongside Jackman when he first played Wolverine in X-Men in 2000.
Paquin, who played Rogue in the mutant franchise, said the pair became firm friends and that she felt bad for how physical Jackman's role in the movie was.
Speaking to SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show, she said: "Hugh was the person I was always closest with because I had all my scenes with him. He is still a lovely, gracious human being.
"He got put through the wringer on that first one and never ever complained.
"It's minus 40 [degrees] and he's being dropped off some building onto his back over and over and over again. And still has all the time in the world to be a nice, normal person."
Paquin also revealed that she had to help Jackman remove Wolverine's cigar from between his teeth as he was unable to do it with his claws. She said: "I did have to pick cigar out of his teeth because he couldn't do it with his claws [out] without causing personal damage."
