Sunday's Back to Barrytown on RTÉ One celebrates The Snapper as stars Colm Meaney, Tina Kellegher and Ruth McCabe, writer Roddy Doyle and director Stephen Frears look back on an Irish comedy classic - and the nation's enduring fascination with Georgie Burgess, played by the late, great Pat Laffan.
The production team behind the documentary says: "In the second of a three-part series for RTÉ One about the Barrytown Trilogy, Colm Meaney journeys back to the film that is still as popular and quotable as ever, almost 30 years after its release.

"Through the eyes of cast and crew, including Tina Kellegher, Ruth McCabe, Roddy Doyle and director Stephen Frears (who, in this documentary, describes The Snapper as the best film he ever made), we discover the stories behind the memorable characters of Georgie Burgess and Sharon Curley and how they were brought to our screens.
"Whilst revisiting the making of the film, we also explore the suburb of Kilbarrack - a place synonymous with the world of Barrytown - where we learn the human stories of the locals and why the film still endures both there and beyond.

"As well as telling the story of the making of the film, it also explores the cultural context of the time; an Ireland on the cusp of enormous social change."
Back to Barrytown is on Sunday on RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player at 9:30pm. As part of the fun, RTÉ One will also screen The Commitments on Saturday, 22 May after the Eurovision Song Contest Final; and The Snapper on Saturday, 29 May at 9:30pm.
