It is reported that Pitch Perfect 2 director Elizabeth Banks will film her new project Cocaine Bear in Ireland later this year.

The Irish Examiner and The Irish Mirror report that Hunger Games star-turned-director Banks will be behind the lens when cameras start rolling on the film in Wicklow this August.

When Cocaine Bear was first announced in March, entertainment trade publication The Hollywood Reporter said it had been described as "a character-driven thriller inspired by true events that took place in Kentucky in 1985".

"The true story, as reported in 1985 by The New York Times, was that a 175-pound black bear consumed the contents of a duffle bag filled with more than 70 pounds of cocaine that was dropped from an airplane by a local drug smuggler, Andrew Thornton," it continued. "The bear was later found dead of an apparent drug overdose."

Cocaine Bear will be produced by The Lego Movie filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller. It is the latest project to choose Ireland as a location. Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey are currently filming the sequel to Enchanted here while Modern Family star Sarah Hyland is making the fairytale drama series Epic at Luttrellstown Castle.
