It may not be able to slice through the armour of an Imperial stormtrooper or even butter that's been left out of the fridge, but to mark Star Wars Day: May the Fourth, Disney has unveiled the first "working" lightsaber.

The mystical piece of Jedi hardware was revealed in a teaser clip yesterday as part of a new attraction at Disney World – and it may become the must-see experience for Star Wars nerds the galaxy over.

The lightsaber will be part of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a new immersive experience due to open at Disney World in 2022.

The new attraction will see users board the Halcyon starcruiser for "a multi-day story experience" – and yes, visitors will get a chance to have a go on that new lightsaber, which Disney says will extend, retract, and light up at the touch of a button.

Which is all very well, but we want to know if it makes that cool sound.
