Fast-rising Norwegian pop star Girl in Red releases her debut album, If I Could Make it Go Quiet, on Friday. We asked her the BIG questions . . .
Speaking about the album, which was co-produced by Grammy-winning producer FINNEAS, brother of Billie Eilish, she says, "If I Could Make it Go Quiet is an attempt to learn what it's like to be human; to deal with the scariest parts of myself. To live with the pain of knowing I’m only flesh and bones, to be angry, broken, and unforgiving yet still able to wear my heart on my sleeve.
"I’m shedding light on the darkest parts of my mind and I’m letting everyone in. If I Could Make it Go Quiet is me simply trying to understand what the f*** is going on."
Tell us three things about yourself?
This winter I tried learning snowboarding!
I really like meeting new people and making new friends.
I'm really good at fingerboarding! (that's finger skateboarding - yoof Ed).
How would you describe your music?
I would describe my music as full on, energetic, no genre, pop music. I’m not sure how to describe my music because it feels like pop but not pop at the same time.
Who are your musical inspirations?
I’m really inspired by making music, music itself is really inspiring. hearing something that’s good is really inspiring but also, I’m inspired by Taylor Swift because she’s such a great songwriter and she’s been in the game for so long and keeps making great songs.
How did you occupy yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?
I made a record throughout the first year of the pandemic, so I was just in the studio for near enough the entire year. I also got a new dog! so I was busy!
What’s your favourite song right now?
Bias by Floating Points. Floating points is this really, really cool electronic artist. It’s a dope song.
