Norwegian alt-pop singer Skaar has released her album, Waiting, and the lead track Say Something Now. We asked her the BIG questions . . .

22-year-old Skaar (pronounced Score) has been nominated for best pop artist and best new artist at the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammys.

Speaking about her new album, she says, "Waiting closes the musical chapter I've been working on for the last three years. It’s a prequel to the EP and shows a whole different side of me as an artist, but also a whole other part of the story I want to tell.

"I was supposed to write a lot of music in the spring of 2020, but when the pandemic hit, I just lost all of my creativity. In the autumn, I had sessions almost every day and after many months of frustration I suddenly met a turning point and had this rush of inspiration. After nine amazing days, we completed the album. And I’m so proud of how it turned out!"

"Say Something Now is a song I wrote about a very specific moment of a breakup," she adds. "I needed to know if there was anything left to hold on to or if it was time to move on. I needed that other person to just be honest. I was desperate to know what was going on in his head."

Tell us three things about yourself?

I don’t like candy, I LOVE cheese and If I were a dog, I would be a golden retriever!

How would you describe your music?

Very emotional! And a mix of energetic and lowkey euphoric pop.

Who are your musical inspirations?

COLDPLAY!! Without a doubt, but also Banks, Foo Fighters, Florence and The Machine, Aurora and so on.

How are you occupying yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?

I’ve been eating A LOT of cheese and drinking beer. But now there’s so much to do, and I just moved into a new apartment. So I keep myself busy no matter what!

What’s your favourite song right now?

Missing U by Robyn. Ahhh I love her.

Favourite lyric of all time?

"I'll close my eyes, then I won't see, The love you don't feel when you're holding me."

I Can’t Make You Love Me by Bonnie Riatt. It’s probably because this song always makes me cry cause it’s so open and honest and just without anything in between the lines. Just straight forward heartbreak :/

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Charlie Brown by Coldplay. Always puts me in a good mood!

Where can people find your music/more information?

EVERYWHERE! Hehe, no but really! Spotify, Apple music, TIDAL, YouTube, wherever! I’m also on Instagram and other SoMe as skaarofficial! And my website.
