Paul Mescal has been nominated for the Best Breakthrough award at this year's MTV Movie and T Awards for his role in Normal People.

The 25-year-old Kildare actor, who starred alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones, in the hit tv adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel is up against Antonia Gentry (Ginny & Georgia), Ashley Park (Emily in Paris), Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm), and Regé-Jean Page (Bridgerton) for the prize.

WandaVision leads the scripted nominations with five nominations including Best Show, Best Performance in A Show and Best Villain, closely followed by Emily In Paris and The Boys with four nominations each.

There are also nominations for Bridgerton, The Mandalorian and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, and first-time MTV nominations for Carey Mulligan, Anya Taylor-Joy and Michaela Coel.

Chadwick Boseman will receive a posthumous nomination for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom during the ceremony, which takes place on May 16th.
