Departing EastEnders star Davood Ghadami has joined the cast of Holby City, playing "talented, if slightly idiosyncratic" surgeon Eli Ebrahimi.

"Excitable, passionate and exploding with energy, Eli puts work above everything," says the BBC One medical drama.

Ghadami, who plays Kush in EastEnders, said he is "absolutely thrilled to be joining such a brilliant show".

"Holby City is renowned for its quality storytelling and I'm excited for the audience to meet Eli and watch the drama that unfolds on his arrival!" he added.

Ghadami will make his debut as Eli on Holby City later this year. His EastEnders exit storyline will play out in the week ahead.
