Dublin-born artist Marcus has released his new single Redemption. We asked him the BIG questions . . .
The track is the follow-up to February's debut single Obey, and speaking about the new track, Marcus says, "I wrote Redemption in April last year. We were in the middle of the first lockdown and I recorded the track (for the most part) remotely with Alex Borwick, bouncing files between us.

"The vocals in the first verse were recorded on a budget mic in my room, using the wardrobe as a vocal booth. Redemption is a song about family, friends and the places we come from."
Tell us three things about yourself?
I failed music in school.
I like cold showers.
My first job was selling scratch cards on Grafton Street.
How would you describe your music?
I would describe my music as honest. I try to write songs that are true to myself. I would also say unique because I take influence from a few different genres.
Who are your musical inspirations?
J Cole inspires me a lot. He seems like a humble guy and he writes music that helps people. I think it’s important for artists to stay grounded and to give back if they're in a position to do so.
How are you occupying yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?
I've been reading, running, and writing music. I'm quite reclusive so lockdowns haven't affected me in any major way. I joke with my friends that I've been isolating since 2012 so this is nothing new for me.
What’s your favourite song right now?
That's a tough one. It's constantly changing. I would say that today my favourite song is I Couldn't Explain Why by Citizen Cope.
Favourite lyric of all time?
Another tough one. Probably something subtle. Erick the Architect has a line - "money don't buy experience, can't dig in your pocket for it." That's a pretty obvious truth but it really resonated with me when I heard it.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
It would probably be a beat so I would have something to write over.
Where can people find your music/more information?
You can listen to my new single Redemption on any streaming platform. You can also find me on social media with the handle @yourcuzmarcus.
