Seattle-based Brian Fennell, trading as SYML, releases his new EP, Dim, on Friday, 16 April and is gearing up for a livestream at Saint Mark's Episcopal Cathedral in the city on Sunday, 25 April. His track Mr Sandman featured in the Behind Her Eyes trailer and in episode five of the thriller. We ask him the BIG questions...

Tell us three things about yourself?

I used to not wear hats, not even one. Now, I mostly wear hats.

Whenever I drink something, I swish it around in my mouth before swallowing. I learned fairly late in life that this is not typical.

I have, what I consider to be, an unnatural fear of bees.

How would you describe your music?

Cinematic alt-singer-songwriter with a strong helping of melancholia.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Jeff Buckley

Nina Simone

Tom Petty

Elbow

How are you occupying yourself during the coronavirus lockdown?

I have really enjoyed the time with family. After touring for months on end, we were ready for a (forced) break. I am also lucky to be able to write and record music at home, so I've been doing a lot of that as well. Anxious to get back out into the world, though!

What's your favourite song right now?

Haunted House - Holly Humberstone

Favourite lyric of all time?

'It's never over. My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder'. - Lover, You Should've Come Over - Jeff Buckley

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Clair de Lune - Debussy
