Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have officially called off their two-year engagement, saying in a statement that they "realised we are better as friends."

In a joint statement issued to NBC's Today Show, they said: "We have realised we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so," the couple said.

"We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another's children.

"Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support."

Last month the couple denied split rumours, saying: "All the reports are inaccurate. We are working through some things."

Lopez, 51, and Rodriguez, 45, began dating almost four years ago. They became engaged in the Bahamas in March 2019.

In an interview with Access Hollywood in December, Lopez revealed that they had twice postponed their wedding due to the pandemic.
